The problem

Inference has buyers and sellers.
It does not have a market.

Buyer You cannot tell a fair price from an arbitrary one. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and others price unilaterally, and there is no benchmark to check them against.
Seller A GPU sitting idle earns nothing. There is nowhere to sell spare capacity, and no contract that would make a corporate buyer accept it if there were.
Market The price never moves. Published rates sit still for months while supply and demand shift underneath them. A rate card is not a market.
